Directing, Concept, Motion Graphic Design // Duality : Poetry of Movement

DUALITY  is my Grad Project for Digital Design Program in Vancouver Film School.

My goal was to showcase the similarities of boxing and ballet. Inspired by the connection between science and dance, I spent time researching the mathematical aspect of each movement to understand the physics aspect of boxing and ballet. Although both art form seemed different, it was important to me to showcase the strength and grace in both art form.

The challenge for me was keeping the motion graphic simple in order to support the live footage and not overwhelm it. Deciding how best to approach this comes down to the message I was trying to communicate.

I wanted the overall mood of this motion piece to convey a sense of mystery, determination, grace and sense of isolation. After reaching the final cut of the project, I knew that sound design would play a huge role in establishing this so I reached out to Rachel Soong, a talented musician and sound designer.
